Born and raised in Washington State, I received my Bachelor of Architecture from Washington State University in Pullman, Washington in 1998, and subsequently moved to the Seattle area.
I worked for two years in a small Bellevue, WA firm led by the young and energetic Frank Lawhead; a family man, who always made time for his Son's baseball games and the Mariners, but worked late into the evening to meet every deadline.
After meeting my beautiful wife in late 1999, I moved to Orlando, Florida where I had the honored opportunity to work for a very large firm; SchenkelShultz. I worked my way up quickly in six years from picking up CAD redlines, to directing teams on a Billion-dollar construction program for Orange County Public Schools. Working with wonderful people, I gained a tremendous amount of experience in every facet of the design and construction process; working on a long list of projects.
While destined for higher levels in the organization, my wife and I decided to move to the Austin area in 2007 with our 2 children, to be closer to family and live in a community with values closely resembling our own.
I am now a Life Safety Code surveyor for the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS); inspecting new and existing long term care facilities (Nursing Homes, Assisted Living Facilities and Adult Daycares) for compliance with licensing regulations, the life safety code (construction, fire safety, exits, etc...), and certification for Medicare and Medicaid. I've discovered code research, and all facets of fire-rated construction to be extremely interesting to learn and teach.
I continue to have the chance to balance everything in my life I care about; my family, my passion for the outdoors, my love for design, and the chance to help my fellow Texans in countless ways. I bring that passion to everything I work on; large or small.
